Great news for vehicle owners, theLand Transportation Office (LTO) of the Philippines has recently announced that new car owners can now expect to receive their license plates within 10 days from the date of purchase. This is a significant improvement compared to the previous processing time, which could take months or even years due to backlogs in production.
The LTO’s plate-making plant has ramped up its production, now operating at full capacity with eight plate-making machines. With this increased output, the LTO is now able to produce 32,000 plates per day. “The wait times are over. Buy a car today, and you’ll have your license plate ready in 10 days. Motorcycles? Even quicker,” says LTO chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II as he assures the public that they will continue to improve their processes and meet the demand for license plates.
Advances in Plate Production and Operational Tools
The remarkable improvement in production speed can be attributed to the upgrades in the license plate facility. On his recent visit, Mendoza reported that the number of license plate manufacturing machines has increased from five to eight. “We’re forecasting a total daily output of 32,000 plates. Once we get the green light from the Department of Transportation (DOTr), we’ll be all systems go,” he said.
Parallel to the license plate acceleration, the LTO also plans to fully operationalize its online transaction tool, the Land Transportation Management System (LTMS), within the same month. This holistic platform aims to integrate all LTO public services into a unified, contactless system. Mendoza further discussed plans to establish a Technical Working Group (TWG) to iron out any remaining issues with the LTMS.
Digital Transformation: LTO’s Future
Furthermore, Mendoza declared that all LTFRB regional directors and district officers have been briefed on the full-scale migration to the LTMS. “Our goal is to gradually transition to 100% LTMS usage by month end.” He stressed that the move towards digitalization is in line with their objective to provide more efficient and reliable services to the public.
